I'm new to Clipart.com -- could you give me a tour?

Below is a basic overview of Clipart.com's site. Read on to learn how to search for images and fonts, and what to do with them after you've found them.

Finding Files

You can search for files by using descriptive keywords or browsing categories that interest you.

Keyword Search

1. Select the image media type you wish to search for (i.e. Clipart, Photos, Illustrations).

2. Enter keyword(s) into the keywords search field.

   • To find an exact phrase, enclose it in double quotes: (Examples: "Statue of Liberty", "World War II", "pin the tail on the donkey")

   • Select Match all or Match Any from the pull-down menu. (NOTE: This only applies when using more than one keyword)

   • Enter any keywords you'd like to filter out of your search into the not these words field.

3. Click the Search button.

Browsing Categories

1. Select a category in the search tool and click the Browse button.

To perform a keyword search within a particular category:

1. Select a category.

2. Type the keyword(s) you wish to search for within that category.

3. Click the Search button.

Note: To further narrow down your results, you can combine additional search parameters available in the search tool with your category search.

Filters

To specify which file formats (JPEG, GIF, PSD, EPS, WMF) to search for, select or deselect the checkboxes in the search tool.

NOTE: Your search results may include formats other than those you've chosen to search for. See Why am I still finding formats I've opted to exclude for further details.

Downloading Images

When you find the image you want, click once on its thumbnail to go to the download page. This area contains useful information about the file you have selected, including available file formats, file size, dimensions, publisher, and keywords.

From here, you have two options for downloading:

• Click Download to the right of the appropriate file type to download the image. This is easiest because it arrives ready to use (no need to un-Zip it).
  
  
• Click Add to cart to put the file in your shopping cart for downloading later. (See "Downloading Shopping Carts" below.)

How many images can I download per day?

Clipart.com allows up to 1,000 downloads per day. Please review our End User License Agreement before downloading images to make sure you are not violating our "image stockpiling" restriction.

Downloading Different Image Formats

After clicking Download, the steps you take will depend on the file type you're downloading:

• EPS, WMF, PSD: Choose Save File when given an option.
• GIF, JPEG, PNG: When the larger image appears in a new browser window, right-click (Windows) or click-hold (Macintosh) on it, then choose Save Picture or Save Image from the pop-up menu.

NOTE: Images saved to the desktop are easier to find!

Downloading Fonts

On the download page, click the Download link for Mac Type 1, Windows Type 1, Mac TrueType, or Windows TrueType. If asked, choose Save and ignore other options (unless you know what you're doing).

After downloading the compressed archive, you'll need to extract its files:

• Windows: Un-Zip the cart or font using a Zip utility. If you don't have one, you can download WinZip, ZipBack Pro, or StuffIt Expander. (Remember, evaluation versions don't cost anything.)
• Macintosh: Most Macintosh browsers extract files to your desktop automatically. On the off chance you don't have a StuffIt program already, get StuffIt Expander from Aladdin Systems.

After extracting your font files, you'll need to install them. See below for further instructions.

Downloading Shopping Carts

When you are ready to download the items in your shopping cart, click Cart (on the upper navigation bar). In the shopping cart area, click Download Your Cart. If asked, choose Save and ignore other options (unless you know you're doing).

After downloading the compressed archive, you'll need to extract its files. Un-Zip the cart or font using a Zip or StuffIt utility. If you don't have one, you can download WinZip, ZipBack Pro, or StuffIt Expander. (Remember, evaluation versions don't cost anything.)

NOTE: Most Macintosh browsers extract files to your desktop automatically.

Opening, Scaling, and Printing Images

To open images in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher:

1. Open a blank document.
2. Choose Picture - From File from the Insert menu to open the image.
3. Click the image and drag its handles to scale it.
4. Choose Print from the File menu to print it.

NOTE: Other applications have similar procedures -- check your software's help documentation for details.

Installing Fonts

To install fonts so they're available in all of your applications:

• Windows: After un-Zipping the font, choose Settings from the Start menu, select Control Panel and open the Fonts folder, then choose Install New Font... from its File menu.
• Macintosh: Make sure the font is un-Zipped, then drag it to your closed System Folder and click OK when it tells you the files will be put in the font folder. Be sure to drag the font suitcases to the closed system folder -- NOT the whole font folder.

NOTE: You'll usually need to quit then reopen the application to see your newly installed fonts.

Changing Account Information

To change your password, customer information, or mailing-list options, be sure you are signed in and then go to the homepage. The links for all of these pages will be located on the right.
