How do I open JPEG and GIF images?
Below are instructions for opening JPEG (.jpg) and GIF (.gif) files in popular applications for Windows and Macintosh.

NOTE: New versions may have different menu commands. Check your software's help documentation to see if the commands have changed.

Abobe PageMaker

  • Choose Place from the File menu

Adobe Photoshop

  • Choose Open from the File menu.


  • Choose Insert v. 5.1 or newer from the File menu

Corel WordPerfect

  • Choose Insert Picture File from the File menu

Deneba Canvas

  • Choose Open from the File menu


  • Choose Open from the File menu

ImageViewer (Mac only)

  • Choose Open from the File menu

Microsoft Photo Editor

  • Click Open on the Standard toolbar

Microsoft Publisher

  • Choose Picture File from the Insert menu

Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Choose Picture from the Insert menu
  • Select From File

Microsoft Works

  • Choose Picture File v.6.1 or newer from the Insert menu


  • Choose Open v.7 or newer from the File menu


  • Draw a graphic rectangle
  • Choose Get Picture from the File menu
  • Quark recommends converting JPEG files to TIFF before using.


  • Choose Open from the File menu
