Can I get the image I found at a higher resolution?
If you have an image editor, you can use it to increase your image's resolution. Before you attempt this, however, click here to see if the current resolution actually poses a problem.

Still want to increase the resolution? Try resizing or resampling:

Resize the Image
An image's dpi is relative to its size -- if you make the image smaller, its resolution will increase:

  1. Download the image and open it in your image editor.

  2. Open your application's Scale or Image Size menu item.

  3. Make sure the "Resample" option is NOT checked. (Very important!)

  4. Reset the resolution to the desired dpi (144 dpi should be ample for most uses).

  5. Scale the image.

Resample the Image
If the image is too small to use once you have rescaled it, try resampling it:

  1. Close the image without saving it, then reopen it to get back to the "as-downloaded" version.

  2. Open your application's Scale or Image Size menu item.

  3. Check the "Resample" option and scale the image.

NOTE: For specific instructions on resizing and resampling images, see your software's help documentation.
